Helping families become healthier

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is a nutrition program that serves over 8 million individuals in the United States every year.

The mission of WIC is to assure healthy pregnancies, healthy birth outcomes, and healthy growth and development for infants and children up to age 5. This is done by providing:

  • nutritious foods to supplement participants' normal diets;
  • information and education on healthy eating;
  • breastfeeding support;
  • and referrals to additional health care and social service programs when they are needed.

WIC helps to ensure that kids enter kindergarten healthy and ready to learn.

The education provided in WIC is person centered. It can be in many different forms to meet each family's needs: online education, one-on-one counseling or in group nutrition classes. The WIC staff will work with each family to help them decide what they want to do to become a healthier family.
